First off, Ashleigh + I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas!! I thought it would be a good day to post a blog because today was filled with so much love, gratitude, and joy that I wanted to share a piece of that with all of you.
Something that I treasure every Christmas is the time that my family takes in the morning to talk about Jesus, and what he means to each of us, and how we see him at work in each of our lives. I will never get over how beautiful it is that we all love the same Jesus, but yet he works so specifically and intimately in each of our lives. Through our conversation this morning I was able to experience different parts of Jesus just through listening to the specific ways that he is working in their lives. This is when I challenge you to share your story and what you’re learning more often because a single conversation truly has the power to change someone’s life!
Anyways, I want to focus this blog on how Jesus is everything that we need in every circumstance, emotion, insecurity, struggle, victory, and the list goes on and on. In other words, he is provider in a countless number of ways. I spent time in Isaiah 9 this morning and verse 6 says,“And he will be called, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
If I had to guess, the majority of us are familiar with this verse, but to let it sink deep into our hearts is a different story. I traced over these words, over and over and over again. I slowly started to realize how much power, how much perfection, how much love is rooted behind these descriptions, and to think that Jesus chose to leave behind all of the perfection, comfort, and majesty of Heaven to be everything that we needed, even before we knew how desperately we needed him.
He is not only my wonderful counselor when I need advice, direction, or clarity, but he is also my mighty God when I feel weak or defeated. He is my everlasting Father in the moments that I think my performance defines me or when I lack the eternal perspective that I so desperately crave. And he is my prince of peace when anxiety clouds my thinking and vision and when fear sets in. He is provider in every circumstance. We must invite him in and call upon his name in everything.
I pray that this blog and this Christmas season reminds you of all that Jesus is, and I pray that you begin to see his characteristics displayed in your life. He is near to you and he is so intimately involved in your life. Invite him into your everyday moments and your heart will find the counsel, strength, satisfaction, and peace that it is searching for. He is everything that we need and more.
Thank you, Jesus.
